Home Entertainment IYKYK Elvis

The new Elvis film comes out this week and the hype is REAL. The internet is going crazy over Austin Butler, his iconic Elvis voice and whether or not he should have been cast as Elvis in the first place. Who were the other 2 contenders? None other than the beloved Harry Styles and (the internet's most recent obsession) Miles Teller.

Let’s take a look at Austin's Elvis transformation, Harry’s audition and Miles Teller’s new found fandom. BTW, this is the very first edition of IYKYK (Princess Polly’s breakdown of pop culture, celeb and influencer news). Enjoy!

Everywhere you look RN, there’s a meme about Austin’s voice (or Elvis’ voice it seems). Don’t get us wrong, his Elvis impression is spot on, but has he let it consume his own personality? Austin was officially cast as Elvis way back in July of 2019. He spent the next 2 years of his life dedicating himself to becoming Elvis Presley. It took such a toll that at the end of filming, Austin was hospitalised due to exhaustion. Can we blame him for keeping a bit of his character with him?

Austin received a standing ovation after the movie was played at the Cannes Film Festival. But, the internet still has A LOT to say about who should have been cast as Elvis. *Harry Styles enters the chat*

You know him, you love him and you probably think he would have made a great Elvis Presley. Harry and the director of Elvis, Baz Luhrmann, confirmed that he did audition for the role back in 2019. Luhrmann would even go on to say, He is next level musically, and in terms of fashion, he's almost like Elvis himself. He's a kind of modern Elvis. He's got the fluidity, visual thing.”

Elvis played a huge role when it comes to gender fluidity in the fashion world. At the time, his plunging V-necks and pink bedazzled playsuits were seen as offensive and too feminine. Did that stop him? Absolutely not. Harry can sing (duh), dance, and he’s even been seen sporting Elvis-inspired looks onstage. Should he have been cast as the king of rock & roll?

Has your FYP recently turned into Miles Teller-tok? Same. After Top Gun came to cinemas in late May, the internet went crazy for Miles and the infamous ‘beach scene’. Since then, there’s been a wave of people claiming that Miles is an Elvis-lookalike. Miles can sing, act and does resemble Elvis (some say more than Austin does). Do you think he should have auditioned for the part? We’re not 100% convinced.
