What To Wear To A Spring Wedding

Spring - also known as the season of growth, change, love and of course, weddings. With the warm days and cool nights setting the perfect tone for tying the knot, it's no surprise you have a calendar packed full of formal occasions you need to RSVP to.

But planning what to wear to a spring wedding? Easier than you think! This season calls for a blend of light, breathable fabrics, romantic silhouettes and vibrant, flattering colors that reflect the lively essence of spring.

Whether it’s a black tie wedding, a beachside ceremony or spring wedding in the city, dressing to suit the dress code and the season is key. Every wedding is different and ensuring you understand what the couple wants is important!

If these concepts are new to you or you need a refresher on what each dress code means - you’re in the right place. In this blog, you’ll find an outfit to match every occasion, plus loads of styling tips along the way.

Black Tie Spring Wedding Guest Attire

A black tie spring wedding outfit calls for a look that’s elegant and elevated. Traditionally, ‘black tie’ refers to an occasion that leans more formal than casual. It’s the perfect opportunity to wear that floor length dress you’ve been saving for a special occasion.

In spring, you can nail the black-tie dress code while embracing the season's vibe with vibrant hues and flowing silhouettes. Opt for long maxi and midi dresses and experiment with different necklines to find which one you love the most. Strapless designs are having a major moment right now. The flattering cut looks gorg’ on everyone and will continue to be a trending neckline throughout the year.

Colors like green, beige and yellow will also be a staple this spring, so make sure to have these popular shades in your rotation.

Cocktail & Semi-Formal Spring Wedding Guest Attire

Elevated yet playful is the perfect way to describe cocktail and semi-formal wedding guest attire. This is a more flexible dress code that calls for something unique and eye-catching.

Finding a versatile dress that captures your personality is the perfect place to start. Your fave color, a fun neckline, a midi or maxi length design = a fool-proof spring wedding guest outfit.

Halter designs and classic straight necklines are trending for 2025 and will no doubt be a fave in your wardrobe for seasons to come. Greens, pinks and patterned styles are a yes for cocktail dress codes too.

Have fun with it and find a look that is formal, and true to you!

Spring Garden Wedding Guest Attire

A spring garden wedding sounds like an absolute dream and you’ll be needing a look that matches the aesthetic of the reception. You’ll likely be surrounded by gorg’ floral backdrops and scenic views, so a statement color or pattern is more than appropriate for this wedding destination.

Reach for butter yellows, forest greens and vibrant floral styles and experiment with different design details - like tie up features, lace trimming and backless moments. Our fave thing about these dresses is that you can wear them well after wedding season is over.

B-day brunches, engagement parties, dinner dates - you’ll be looking for any excuse to wear your spring wedding look over and over again.

Spring Wedding Guest Shoes & Accessories

We can’t go past a cute accessory, especially when it takes your outfit from a 10 to a 12 in less than 30 seconds.

Depending on your outfit, your shoes can either be the eye catching element or the minimal feature that subtly compliments the rest of the look. The choice is yours! We’ve included the perfect in between shoe - not too bold, not too basic.

Make sure you also bring a cute purse with you - not only does this add another dimension to your outfit but you’ll likely need a spot to keep your lip liner, powder and gloss. No such thing as too many touch ups when there’s a wedding photographer lurking around!

Spring Wedding Do’s + Don’ts

When it comes to spring wedding dos and don’ts, there’s a few key things you need to keep in mind.

Firstly, don’t forget a jacket! The warm spring days can be deceiving - don’t bet on the fact that the temp will stay the same in the evening (remember, summer hasn’t started!). Plus, a cute layering piece like a coat or shawl can act as an added accessory to your daytime ‘fit.

Another thing to consider is how suitable your look is for the outdoors. Spring weddings usually are held both inside and outside (depending on the weather and location), so be sure to have an outdoor spring wedding guest dress that’s suitable.

What colors can you wear to a spring wedding?

Spring weddings are typically no different to any other wedding, unless otherwise specified in the dress code.

As a general rule, don’t wear white and only wear black if you know the hosts are okay with it. More vibrant colors are usually on rotation (yellows, greens, pastel pinks) and deeper shades like burgundy and navy are most commonly worn in the winter.

Anything floral is a yes and most colors will get the tick of approval. But when in doubt, ask!
